1997 Daytona 500 1st Caution Robert Pressley Goes Airborne "Live With Replays"
This video convinced me to join the military way back in the day.
Now if this had happened at least 10 years ago, Jeff Gordon could have easily been killed. But thank god he wasn't!
Back when nascar was good
On a side note those cars sounded deadly
Courtney Love was in attendance that day, take from that what you will.
Saying it was a hard hit is an understatement. That’s a major major impact. Crazy.
0:43 you can see the Marshall in red standing behind the car stoop to have a look through the rear screen and he can obviously see that things aren't good because he immediately makes the crossed arms sign which means blood, guts and eyeballs all over the place. JK it means driver unresponsive.
That’s one of those crashes where you praise the SAFER barrier, because if that happened prior to, Gordon at best is a vegetable afterwords
Gordon's crash v was much harder....
Hard to imagine Sr., racing full time himself, was the only thing keeping that entire race empire together, and the second he leaves his spoiled brat throws tantrums like that endangering numerous lives. The old man would have done a lot more than throw a shoe at jr’s head for that horse 💩.
Sr would’ve done the same thing if he was in Jr’s position. There has been many of times sr would dump someone over something petty and take multiple drivers out including himself.
@@TheOfficialRandomGuy oh please. Name one time dale sr wrecked two cars that he owned costing him hundreds of thousands in damages and lost winnings as well as the embarrassment to his sponsors, in addition to taking himself and his team mate out? Your comment was as nonsensical as jr wrecking waltrip and himself. You clearly didn’t know dale sr at all.
Here after the Labbe download
This wreck is eerily similar to the 1980 wreck which killed Ricky Knotts at Daytona. Incredible that Jeff Fuller survived this.
I Like This
That quality though
I remember that happening at the time. Martin drove for Ligier a couple of times and they were always testing at that track. It was quite technical and a driver needs lots of miles there to really get to know it. Martin was well up in that session but just pushed too hard and dropped it in qualifying which was a real shame.
Honestly great quality for 2009
Yes I was there for that also
I think FOX should go back to this when they’re broadcasting any motorsports series
HOW is this wreck not talked about more?
Who thought that wall opening was a good idea?
That's an ambulance/fire truck entrance. They're necessary, but the shape was absolutely stupid
Sounds like the DEI cars are running the x pipes
Even Darrell Waltrip was more worried about Mikey than the car. Certainly miles above what I can say about Rusty Wallace's reaction to his son Steven getting in that nasty crash at IRP/ORP in I think 2009. Rusty was more worried about the car.
Is this the race where Jimmie Johnson just beat out Bobby Labonte at the finish line and afterwards you see Bobby kick his car? Lol
Jrs a stupid redneck
1.) Those are by far the best sounding cars in Nascar history. 2.) It sucks to see how far Nascar has fallen when u see how they used to completely sell out every race.
Lucky he did not get hurt. That is really not a ton of damage for his hard he hit.
Multiple car crash happens FOX: yeah! let's show some pit crew guy instead
Nascar is a joke 😂 😂
You’re a joke
Who else is here after Dale Jr Download this week? Even though I was a huge DEI fan in 2005 I honestly had no idea about the drama between the two teams. We really only knew what we heard on the news or tv/radio interviews. Social media changed all that. Now we know every time a driver farts or has the hiccups haha.
Classic fox missing most of the wreck with incar cam and crew shot
Michael was a terrible driver…In this clip it looks to me like Jr had a helluva run on him and tried to go high and Michael blocked him. It’s obvious the 15 moves up the track.
JR wasn’t much better there bud…
@@brentmead3131 Michael Waltrip started at least one race in 33 different seasons - 4 wins. Dale Jr started at least one race in 19 different seasons. - 26 wins. I'd say that's a lot better.
Facts
What the hell are you saying. Jr had no run, he just misjudge the move and kept on going instead of lifting. Dumb move by Jr.
That’s just like Dale jr
Jr strikes again, and people thought he was great.
Probably a million dollars in damage Imagine how many homeless veterans that million dollars would house.
How about regular people, not zogbots
Let's find Tony Sr. and see what he has to say. :)
Back when racing was good. Not this junk car and the stage bs.
This was a good race and great finish !
I was there. Front row in the Ford Grandstands. Crazy to think not that long ago how insanely larger than life this sport was. Going to races now is not even remotely close to what there were in the 90s early 00s.
you got that right. I been to Nascar races from 1992 to 2007 and stopped going afterwards from all the crazy changes that the sport has made. Last year I finally attended a race for the first time in 14 years. I was at Charlotte for the roval race and couldn't believe how small the crowd was and how eerily quiet it felt at times! I mean this was the hub of Nascar! I was shocked and even told my wife (which was her first race) that this crowd was never like this when I first attended. Back then the crowd would roar as loud as those engines on restarts, we had diehard fans that were pro Ford/ pro GM. Today's Nascar is not the same. There is a sense of emptiness and confusion and I guess I miss the old rivalries and camaraderie that was Nascar back in the day. Hence I keep watching Stapleton's RUclips channel for old school race stories. That and Dale Jr's Download truely reflect on what was Nascar's glory days.
So true. The sport was at its peak in the late 90s-2000s. I went to New Hampshire in 2003 and even at a less popular race, it was insane how many people were there- both in the grandstands and outside the track! You could spend all day long outside in the midway or in the sea of campers, there was so much going on at any given moment during the race weekend. It wasn't just a race, it was a weekend long event. Almost like a festival. It was so different than when I attend races now. I went to Bristol in 2019 anticipating it to be packed like the old days, and the stands were completely empty. Yes, we could sit wherever we wanted, but the magic just wasn't there anymore.
@@carrsllccarrillo6507 Honestly I wish I could go back in time and experience the 90s and 2000s races in person 😔
Doesn't seem that long ago, but only 4 drivers in this race are still driving in 2022. I'm getting old....
Isn’t that crazy?!
Ugh, the ugliness going on in the DEU garage at this point... iykyk
What’s funny is I’m here bc of the latest dale jr download. Had no idea DEI was so splintered.
Dale Jr download sent me here.
i just heard eury jr talk about this & the "inside drama" is there any footage or eury sr going off?
I hope so
Who’s here after the Download with Tony Eury Jr?
Here
Here
Do you think Tony jr was a good crew chief 🤔 just wondering what other Jr. Fans think
@@ghostfarmer358 heck yeah and I think so even more now.
Tony jr. 162 cup starts 2 wins 100 xfinity starts 1 win Me personally I think jr. Should have left tony jr. At dei and got Alan Gustafson. Jr would probably won a championship with him
Back when nascar had stock cars. All the tracks were sold out with 50-100% more seats at each race than there is now. Themed paint scheme races. Legends racing all at once and now we have half way filled stands half the power cars that are far from stock no longer the drivers from humble beginnings only silver spoon spoiled brats guaranteed a ride because of money. I miss this nascar even if the racing went to shit
I miss it too...i see these older clips and I'm like yeah...it was still good in 05.
What exactly was "stock" about those cars?
@@AcesnEights698 The fact that the manufacturers had control over their own research and development and produce their own cars rather than it just be a spec series like it is now
Go back to the 70s if you want to see "stock" cars. Back then its not like the racing was better it was actually worse, mainly because it would just be a handful of guys whooping on the field because guess what, they had way more money than everyone else. Nascar hit its peak in the late 90s and early 00s and it went downhill after 05-06
@@SilverSylphide "it was actually worse, mainly because it would just be a handful of guys whooping on the field" That is objectively untrue. Christ almighty, its like these young Nascar fans think 2018-2020 was the entirety of Nascar's history, and now they got the audacity to act like they've been around the entire time to try and justify this bs.
Came here from the Tony Jr interview on the Dale Jr Download this week!
same lol
it was in my suggestions..but I hard Tony Jr talking about this wreck on dirty mo today
popped up in my suggestions after watching them talk about it. Lol
Me too! Back then I think a lot of race fans thought the 8 and 15 teams hated each other’s guts but we didn’t know the half of it
Phil Duritza Everybody is always so quick to put all the Blame on Teresa for the Demise of D.E.I. But after listening to Dale Jr. and Tony Jr.,s Discussion on the show the other day I would have to say it’s more like 1/4th Teresa 1/4th Dale Jr. 1/4th The Eury,s And 1/4th unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances.
The good old days!
I was there and didn't know about everything that was going on at DEI at the time till seeing the Jr download .
Same here.
Same here!!
Pocono 2005, here we come!
Ty Norris hinted at it while on the podcast.
It’s crazy how some people walk away from crash”s where nothing is left but people is still alive but the ones where the car is ok makes you think god where did the energy go too like Dale Earnhardt. There’s been a bunch I could name this being one of them.
